Why we built HortiOwl
Most garden centres and nurseries run on a combination of spreadsheets, paper order books, and accounting software that was never designed for horticulture. Stock is tracked in one place, quotes in another, and invoices somewhere else entirely. When a batch number needs tracing or a Plant Passport needs raising, it means hunting through multiple systems — or worse, a filing cabinet.
HortiOwl was built to fix that. Every workflow in the platform reflects how the trade actually operates: quotes that convert to orders in one click, batch inventory that tracks stock from propagation through to sale, purchase orders with call-off support and GRN traceability, and invoicing that handles UK VAT correctly for plants without any manual configuration.
It runs entirely on UK infrastructure (AWS London, eu-west-2), handles UK GDPR and Plant Passport compliance out of the box, and exports directly to Sage 50, Xero, and QuickBooks so it fits alongside whatever accounting software you already use.
Purpose-built, not adapted
Generic stock or ERP software can be configured to handle plant sales — but the configuration never quite fits, and every update risks breaking the workarounds holding it together. HortiOwl is designed from scratch around horticulture workflows, which means things like batch lot tracking, Plant Passport data capture, and multi-site inventory are first-class features, not bolt-ons.
